A local woman is going above and beyond to salute front-line workers during this time.

She shared with News 18 why her small gesture is impacting people in a big way.

During this time.

She shared with me why her small gesture is impacting people in a big way.

If you are in west lafayette and you find yourself on salisbury street you may encounter two things on the way.

Nat pop a clanging pot and patti o'callaghan.

"people didn't seem to know what i was doing.

So i made my sign, "thanks to all the frontline workers."

Patti is taking part in a national movement of people taking time out their day to thank those who are working the frontline during this pandemic.

But she's added her own twist.

"so now i hold my pot and i hold my sign and i bang.

I even put a "hi" inside my pot cover."

Where did the pot idea come from?

Patti says it's signifies giving frontline workers a round of applause.

"when we were trying to stay home they were working."

Patti has been doing salute for frontline workers since march.

She does it everyday at 7pm.

She says people, now, look for her at that time.

Nat pop : "i love coming by here and seeing you everyday."

As patti and i were talking a couple who works in health care stopped to thank her.

She says sometimes it's the small things that makes someone's day.

"it's important to me so i do it 7 days a week."

Over the last several months patti has even added occupations to her sign.

"we had a tree go down on smiley and our power went out, then i added power workers.

I do have news reporters too, scientists."

As well as doctors, pharmacists, custodians and many more.

Patti says it's a great feeling putting a smile on people's faces.

"i think they are smiling.

It's kind of hard to see sometimes."

Patti doesn't know how long she'll continue doing salute for frontline workers.

However for now, you can also catch her on happy hollow three days a week during her morning run where she also encourages people to thank frontline workers.
