The Jammu administration has started partially free Wi-Fi facility at six locations in the city to boost tourism, and help students, youth and the business community. According to the administration, the Wi-Fi service will be free for first 30 minutes, and chargeable after that. Sushma Chauhan, Jammu's Deputy Commissioner, informed that two more locations will be added in the next two days, and if the results are encouraging then the facility will be extended to more locations. "Based on results of these locations, it will be further extended. It will boost tourism and help youth, students and business community. Initially, internet will be free for the first 30 minutes, beyond that it can be utilised on payment basis," Chauhan told ANI.
A dalit woman was allegedly raped at gunpoint by 2 men, including a former village head in UP's Kanpur. The incident took place in Derapur town of Kanpur. Speaking to ANI, SP of Kanpur dehat, Keshav Kumar Choudhary said, "On victim's complaint, we have registered a case against 2 men belonging to same caste as her's. Teams are out to arrest the accused."
A clash broke out between two families in Kanpur on October 17. The dispute took place over a plot of land in Sadh. Two persons of a family received burn injuries after they were set ablaze by members of other side. Police official said, "Clash between two sides of a family took place over a piece of land. People from one side took out oil from their motorcycle and threw it on the members of the other group. An FIR has been registered and the accused have been arrested."

The festival is celebrated in different ways across the country. Over the next nine days, devotees offer their prayers to Goddess Durga and observe fasts. Also known as Sharad Navratri, the festival marks Durga's victory over demon Mahishasura.
