District Returns To In-Class Learning

Ashley Carter reports from Mill Creek Elementary where the first group of students are set to arrive.

This morning..

Youre taking a live look over the city of madison.

District staff and parents are getting ready to send students back to the classroom today!

This comes as the alabama department of health named madison county a "very high risk" for coronavirus infection!

Waay 31's ashley carter is live at mill creek elementary where the first group of students is set to arrive in just a couple of hours.

Ashley?

Elementary students in group a at mill creek will be the first ones back here today.

Inside the building the district has added a number of safety precautions to keep students as safe as possible especially now that the county is in the very high risk category each building will be cleaned daily and each desk is going to spread out as far as possible there are stickers with arrows on them in the hallways to point students in the direction they should go to avoid overcrowding.

While the district added a number of safety precautions in place...some parents are still concerned sending their children back to school as the county re- enters the very high risk category brandy taylor: "i think they should not be doing it this soon, if you want my honest opinion.

I think that, especially now that madison is going back up to red.

I think we're kinda jumping into it a little bit too quickly, and i say that even though i have a child that's going to be school- based."

The district did make the decision to re-open schools when the county was in the low risk category.

The change is only making them be extra safe as they re-open today.

Elementary students were divided into two groups based on their last name.

Today -- only group a will come back.

Group b returns tomorrow.

Each group only attends in- person learning two days this week.
