Electric Works takes center stage at city council meeting

Tuesday, the Redevelopment Commission said they've lost confidence in RTM Ventures who is the developer for Electric Works.

The Redevelopment Commission said after numerous extensions, it's too much of a risk to continue with them as a lead on this project.

I'm hunter petroviak.thanks for joining us.tonight at the fort wayne city council meeting electric works developer r-t-m ventures talked to city council members about moving forward with the project.this comes after the city terminated their agreement back in august.

However..tonight we learn the redevelopment commission is suggesting a new developer.

Fox 55's jentill neal has more on tonight's council meeting.

Jentill?hunter, tonight the redevelopment commission says they've lost confidence in rtm ventures who is the developer for electric works.

They say after numerous extensions, it's too much of a risk to continue with them as a lead on this project.

If the deadline was today... rtm ventures says they have everything they need to move forward.however the old deal is dead.rather or not a new deal can be worked out is in limbo.

The redevelopment commission is suggesting a new developer, but rtm ventures owns the property.one of the main worries tonight was losing "do it best" and the jobs it would come to the fort wayne.tonight we learned there was no dialogue between the redevelopment commission and rtm ventures since the termination of the agreement.

But the redevelopment commission is willing to work with rtm ventures just not with them as a lead on the project.

Kevin briggs with rtm ventures says he's still willing to work out a new deal.

We can't snap our fingers and do something completely different now that we're at the eleventh hour trying to get this closed.we have it put together as you've heard from our team as well as the business leaders that this deal is solid.

The elements are there.it's difficult and challenging but we've done it before.it's not a matter of celebration or a pat on the back.

We have lost confidence in a development group before.

We've had to terminate development agreements before when we believed and saw they were not able to perform.

We've always been able to pivot to another team or another way of getting a development.

The meeting just wrapped up moments ago.we could see an investigation in the future on how this decison came to be.

That was suggested at tonights meeting.the mayor was not present but offered an invitation to city council members to meet with him individually to discuss the decision.reporting live jentill neal... fox 55
