The bear fire has devastated communities across butte county and has destroyed several homes.

Kristian: you can see all of the destruction left behind but check this out&.this house completely survived the fire, i spoke with the couple and they tell me they still can't believe it.

Barbara and larry garrett/home survived: we were pretty much set for retirement for the rest of our lives but then we started thinking now we might not be.

Thursday i stopped by the couple's home which was completely untouched by the flames.

But some of their neighbors weren't as lucky.

Barbara and larry garrett: we worked really hard to make our home fire safe as our neighbors did but some of our neighbors didn't have enough time before they evacuated.

For now they couple is staying in an r-v park until they are allowed to return home.

Barbara and larry garrett/home survived: just have hope out there if our house made it maybe yours did too.

Kristian: the garretts tell me they know it will be a long road to rebuilding here in the town of berry creek but they are just thankful they have a home to go to.
