Jada Fisher from Quest Counseling joins us of Good Day Kentucky

To be quite a bit cooler for c1 3 lyssa-host: hi guys.

We are here at quest counseling, right here in somerset.

And i'm with jada fisher.

Jada, thank you so much for joining us today.

We really appreciate it.

Jada fisher: thank you for coming.

Lyssa-host: well, it's an important time right now.

It is suicide prevention month, september is.

And so, let's talk a little bit about that.

Why is awareness about suicide and suicide prevention so important?

Jada fisher: well, it's really important because it's the 10th leading cause of death in the united states.

And it's the second leading cause of death for ages 10 to 34 years of age.

So this is really some serious business.

Lyssa-host: and so when looking at this, what are some signs that maybe the parents can see with their children, warning signs that say heads up, something is not quite right with your child?

What are some warning signs that we should look for?

Jada fisher: well, some of the warning signs that you should probably look for, say for instance, they are really active and outgoing, and then all of a sudden they just stop.

They have no interest in sporting events, games, anything that they used to, persons, places, things that used to be really important to them.

If they start giving away their belongings, those special belongings that really mean something to them.

If ng alone more often, these are e of the really is, if they start to tell y don't have to wait much lonly need to start looking for inhat the treatment process, when you do detes very important here.

If it's an im suicide risk attempt, you can go to your local emergency room for that.

Just getting them in to a psychiatrist or the family doctor, getting them in to see a mental health therapist.

Those are some really important steps.

One of the most important things is talking about it, saying, are you suicidal?

Are you thinking about killing yourself?

That's not going to put something into their head or plant a seed.

It's letting them know that i care.

I'm here for you.

Lyssa-host: right.

That you're listening, and that you're concerned, that you're watching.

And you're very passionate about this too.

And we were talking on the break.

You have a poem that you would like to read too.

Can i ask you, can you read
