Joined the growing list of cities keeping mask mandates in place despite the governor letting the statewide order expire wednesday.

Wtva's alexis jones is live in aberdeen with how people feel about still wearing masks.

Smith said he understands people need masks.

But he believes county leaders should let the mandate expire like governor tate reeves.

Sot: "i don't like the masks, but i know they are probably helpful for a lot of people, but they are a lot of trouble.

I don't know if they do that much good or not."

Meanwhile, a new study debunked the myth that wearing a facemask ... is a potential health hazard.

Several people and groups claimed that face masks can trap carbon dioxide ... and lead to carbon dioxide poisoning.

But scientists at the university of miami said that scenario is very unlikely.

They looked at changes in oxygen and carbon dioxide levels in a group of adults wearing masks.

They found the effects were minimal ... even among patients with severe lung disease.

If you do feel short of breath while wearing a mask ... it's likely from the restriction of air flow.

They recommend slowing down ... or removing the mask if you are at a safe distance from others.
