Us tonight, i'm alan van zandt.

For years st.

Joseph leaders have been looking for attractions for the city's riverfront.

Now, they think they might have an answer with the development of a hiker/biker trail system that supporters say will attract national attention.

Kq2's danielle soxy tells us more about the project <<<(reporting, in 2014, lee clark took on mountain biking in st.

Joseph, and since then, he's envisioned a new look that will transform the river bluff area community activist "the project was initially a thought of mine because i was thinking about how i could protect the area up there in river bluffs park, and protect the people that actually use the area"the 1.5 million dollar project is part of the riverfront master plan that the st.

Joseph city council approved of several years ago.

And as of monday, the river bluff bike trail project is set to begin community activist "the main draw is that it is a bike park....umm...it has what's called gravity trails.

Which, essentially means that you start at the top and you don't have to do a lot of peddling to get to the bottom.

There will also be cross-country style trails, and the hard surface, crushed limestone path at the top of the bluffs.

Those are going to be open to walkers, hikers, trail- runners...anybody that just wants to enjoy the area."with the help of a st.

Louis contractor, the city believes the construction of the trails is a step in the right direction director of public works and transportation "there's just no facilities in five, six states here in the midwest that have anything close to this.

And if they're able to build what they are talking about, we might be one of only a handful in the country.

So, it will be really nice to put st.

Joe on the map if they can do all that."one local biking enthusiast loves sharing her passion of cycling with her grandson, saying these new trails will bring even more time to bond together...sot: annette bertelson, biking enthusiast "my grandson and i recently rode a 10-mile bike ride for the united way."

Annette bertelson has been heavily involved in the biking community in st.

Joseph, and knows that the new trails will attract professional cyclists from around the regionsot: annette bertelson, biking enthusiast "i believe that 250 miles is the closest (trail) in northwest arkansas, so this is going to be phenomenal for a lot of people."reporting in st.

Joseph, danielle news>>> the design and construcion of the trails is expected to last over the year.

The city hopes to have the project completed in the spring of 2022.
