Many southern Indiana and Illinois counties see a big early voting turnout

To their views.

We now want to shift our focus to our southern viewing area.

Folks have been making their way to early vote for weeks now.

That's right...and from the sound of it...that enthusiasm has kept up for election day.

News 10 bureau chief gary brian has been keeping up with things today and tells us what today's election looked like in knox county.

Gar} "for the last few weeks election workers have been busy with early voting.

Today, on election day, from martin county in the east to richland county in the west the story remains the same."

Knox county is expecting a big turnout in this year's presidential election.

A lot of that comes from votes cast early.

The clerk's office has been working to make sure every vote counts...even those who are quarantined with covid-19.

"walked up to the door and placed the ballot at their door.

They were also instructed to wait until i got back to my vehicle before they opened their door.

They then obtained their ballot, took it inside, filled it out, and put it it back outside.

Waited a few moments for the preverbial dust to settle.

Then i suited up in hazmat gear, full face shield, mask, rubber gloves, and a large zip lock bag."

Along with those covid-19 voters...knox county saw just shy of six thousand early votes cast.

That doubles the number of votes seen in 2016.

"absentee ballots were more then doubled.

Then throw in the mix all the covid house calls that we've done in the last week and a half or two weeks."

Knox, daviess, and martin counties all saw double the turnout in early voting in indiana.

In illinois the same could be said for lawrence county.

Crawford county actually received half of the entire total vote of 2016 in 2020 early votes.

Those numbers look to go even higher today as every county reported high turnout rates for election day.

"i'd like to see that trend continue from here on out.

But it remains to be seen.

The next elections not until 2022.

Maybe we'll get back to kind of normal and love one another."
