Cases aren't the only thing on the rise.

Hospital officials are also concerned of the number of coronavirus inpatients.

The chief nursing officer for marshall medical centers told us they saw an unexpected spike in numbers this weekend.

Waay 31's sophia borrelli shares how hospitals are dealing with the spike in patients.

Sophia look live: "on friday, there were 17 coronavirus patients in the county's two hospitals.

Right now - there are 26 patients with coronavirus at both marshall medical north and south.

7 of those patients are at the north campus and 19 are right here at marshall medical center south."

Marshall medical centers chief nursing officer - kathy woodruff - told me she doesn't know why the hospital saw a spike in coronavirus inpatients over the weekend.

Kathy woodruff, chief nursing officer for marshall medical centers: "over the last several weeks even before the spike, we had a lot of family exposures.

We've had a lot of patients that ended up being admitted saying you know my whole family has it."

She says right now both hospitals have plenty of beds and they are not near capacity.

Kathy woodruff, chief nursing officer for marshall medical centers: "at marshall south we have a total of 12 icu beds and 6 of those are filled with covid positive patients and at marshall north we have 6 icu beds and we have 2 covid patients at north."

Woodruff also said county's nursing homes continue to be impacted by the virus.

Kathy woodruff, chief nursing officer for marshall medical centers: "there's been a lot of patients on both ends of the county that have come from the nursing homes."
