Southern Indiana Students Return to Class After Break

And with winter break now over---many southern indiana students were welcomed back inside school buildings this morning.... 44news reporter marisa patwa is in evansville with more from students concerned about*physically being in class.

I personally think we shouldn be in school?

It is not getting up early that is making some evsc students not want to go back to class after winter break monday --- but the fear of contracting covid-19.?especially when i see people out that sat near me.

Because people get quarantined once in a while."

Evsc officials say while students have the option of remaining virtual -- there is nothing better than face to face learning?there is no doubt -- nothing can compare with in-person instruction?

In fact -- the parent who was the driving force behind the evsc pushing back the start of the twenty twenty school in august -- decided to take her kids out the virtual learning academy -- saying they'll learn better with teachers physically present?ie been nervous since i decided to send them back in person this year.

So there is always that little anxiousness they may get sick?

Now while some students say they are appreciation of how seriously the school corporation is taking their safety -- there is still always that concern that someone in the classroom may be contagious with the virus and infect them.

"it feels kind of dangerous to be close to people all of the time.

They keep us six feet apart but still -- like sometimes we do group work and we have to be together like that?

So far -- evsc says even with record-breaking covid-19 cases in the county -- they have seen minimal transmission of the virus thus far in the school corp.?the fast majority in fact came from instances outside of the school -- weekend gatherings -- travel -- that kind of thing?

Wee only had one in my fifth graders class that was out for a week?

While the hope is the new year will bring a fresh start?and with knowing the vaccine is here -- wee picoevained h?
