New student high-rise on track for completion in Fall 2022

The landscape in downtown eugene is set to change over the next couple years as work begins on multiple student high-rises.

Developers on one of the projects tell us they see eugene as a thriving city with a great quality of life.

Kezi 9 news reporter jacob roberts joins us live form east broadway near ferry lane.

Jacob, work is already underway at that site?

The lot behind me was once a motel.

It been demolished and in the next two years, a 12-story student high rise will take its place.

The union on broadway apartments should be open in time for fall term of 2022.

I spoke with developers of the building who tell me this is their first construction project in eugene.

Greystar is a global company with experience in student-housing.

The director of development says the 100 million dollar project will include a 12-story complex with more than 350 units.

It will have several amenities, like rooftop decks, landscaped courtyards, study rooms, and a fitness center on the top floor.

The company says they were enticed to eugene by all that is happening at the nearby unviersity of oregon.

We saw hayward field and all this exciting track and field stuff happening.

We saw the phil knight scientific center and all the growth ther?

He says this is a two-year project.

Right now, work is underway to build an underground parking garage.

Once that done, the next phase will be concrete and youl see the 12- stories start to emerge.

Greystar is not the only company working on more housing.

Just a couple blocks east, crews have demolished a business to make way for the eugene- broadway apartments, another 12-story high rise.
