Give status of probe into 183 encounters: SC to UP

Suspecting a systemic flaw in the killings of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother while in police custody, the Supreme Court Friday sought probe status in 183 encounter killings that took place in Uttar Pradesh after BJP assumed office under CM Yogi Adityanath and said it wanted to put in place a pan-India mechanism, in sync with NHRC guidelines, to probe such killings.
