Saudi Press: Saudi Arabia approves establishing Research, Development Innovation Authority

(MENAFN - Saudi Press Agency) Riyadh, June 03, 2021, SPA -- Saudi newspapers highlighted in their editorials today a number of issues at local, regional and international arenas. Al-Bilad newspaper said in its editorial that the Cabinet's session, on Tuesday, chaired by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Prime Minister, approved the establishment of an authority named Research, Development Innovation Authority, and this decision is in line with the objectives of the Saudi Vision 2030, regarding advancing in Global Competitiveness Index and the classification of Saudi universities at the global level, as these objectives include having at least five Saudi universities among the top 200 universities in the world rankings, requiring high-quality scientific research. In 2020, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia obtained advanced ranks in the Global Competitiveness Center report and that was among the 63 most competitive countries in the world. Additionally, four Saudi universities have achieved remarkable scientific achievement and distinguished academic progress according to Shanghai global ranking, known as the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), as they topped the list of the best universities in the world, and the first Arab universities, surpassing their counterparts in many countries in 2019 and 2020, the newspaper added. The newspaper concluded that the Saudi Vision 2030 focuses on promoting and supporting the culture of innovation and entrepreneurship. Therefore, numerous bodies in Saudi Arabia work on supporting Saudi talents in order to continue scientific excellence and innovation in universities and national industries, and contribute to economic and social development. In another context, Al-Riyadh newspaper reported in its editorial that the Saudi-Kuwaiti ties are deeply rooted relations and extends to about 131 years. The newspaper added that Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Crown Prince of the State of Kuwait, choice of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as the first country to visit in his current capacity comes as an affirmation of the importance of the relations that bind the two brotherly countries. It also comes as an extension of the visits that contributed to strengthening brotherly ties and cooperation in various fields in anticipation of the next stage within the framework of the two countries'' development visions ''Saudi 2030 - Kuwait 2035." The newspaper further added that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and State of Kuwait cooperate regarding all political issues.
