Australia Provides Humanitarian Aid to Quake and Tsunami-Ravaged Palu

The Australian Air Force has delivered humanitarian aid to Palu, Indonesia, following a devastating earthquake and tsunami that struck the island of Sulawesi on September 28.Making multiple trips since October 6, a rotation of Australian aircraft had evacuated Indonesians displaced by the disaster, as well as delivering much-needed supplies to Palu.

The operation would continue all week, according to Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Gary Quinlan.

He said that tents and emergency generators would also be delivered from an Australian emergency warehouse in Malaysia.According to the Australian embassy in Jakarta , Australia had provided a further $4.5 million to Indonesia, bringing the total relief effort to $10.25 million.The Indonesian Red Cross said it had distributed 15,000 litres of clean water to 1,300 people on October 7.

The death toll rose to 1,763 with over 5,000 feared missing by October 7, according to officials cited in news reports.In this video, posted by the Indonesian Red Cross, relief workers are seen unloading supplies from a military aircraft.
