Trump: I 'Very Much Appreciate' Mueller Disputing BuzzFeed Story
President Trump has commented on the disputed BuzzFeed story.
President Trump has expressed gratitude to special counsel Robert Mueller for publicly disputing the accuracy of a BuzzFeed News report about Trump and his former attorney Michael Cohen.
Trump said on the White House lawn Saturday: "I thought that the BuzzFeed piece, and maybe equally as bad, the coverage of the BuzzFeed phony story--it was a total phony story--and I appreciate the special counsel coming out with a statement last night.
I think it was very appropriate that they did so.
I very much appreciate that."
"I think that the BuzzFeed piece was a disgrace to our country," Trump added.
"It was a disgrace to journalism."
His remarks come after Mueller's office disputed the bombshell story alleging that Trump had directed Cohen to lie to Congress about efforts to build a Trump Tower in Moscow.
"BuzzFeed's description of specific statements to the Special Counsel's Office, and characterization of documents and testimony obtained by this office, regarding Michael Cohen's Congressional testimony are not accurate," said Peter Carr, a spokesman for Mueller.
Meanwhile, BuzzFeed has insisted its report is accurate.
"We stand by our reporting and the sources who informed it, and we urge the Special Counsel to make clear what he's disputing," the outlet's editor, Ben Smith, said in a statement.
