Golden Apple Award - Rachel Salomon from New Hope Middle

Rachel Salomon from New Hope Middle in Whitfield County wins our Golden Apple teaching award.

She became a teacher after raising her own special needs kids.

Firm, and tough when it comes to teaching.

She wants her students to know what she expects.

But this teacher at new hope middle school is also there if her kids need help.

Her dedication has earned her this week's golden apple award.

Natural sound: miss salomon, on behalf of food city and news 12 now i would like to present you with this week golden apple teacher award.

Rodney: it may seem cliche but, the example of what a great teacher is would be ms salomon.

She goes extra mile for her students.

She is willing to do the hard work and give her students those relevant authentic experiences that are going to be life-changing.

Natural sound: so from a number?

Is this a number?

No.

You did get the profit which is awesome.

Rachel: rachel salomon is a teacher born a teacher, lives as a teacher, raise my children as a teacher.

Uhm went back to school later on in life; after i raise my kids with special needs so i could be a teacher.

Natural sound: so do you remember what an integer is?

No.

Rachel: i'm very firm.

I am a firm but effective teacher.

So i want the kids to learn.

And they may not always be my best friend, but they understand what i expect of them and sometimes it's a push sometimes it's sitting down one on one.

Sometimes it's encouragement.

Sometimes it's just looking at a student and they know that i understand.

Rodney: i've been here three years and i can't think of a more caring passionate supportive teacher.

It's the teacher that thinks that all parents want their kids to have.

Rachel: sometimes just guiding.

I think that's really important that they understand that it's not just, "boom, boom, boom."

That i'm here for them.

I'm here for them to take time and to make sure they understand the concepts.

That's the end of this year's golden apple program.

Normally we would have a banquet to celebrate the teachers, but we can't do that because of covid-19.

Instead, we will celebrate our teachers in a special program on may 4th at 7:30 p.m., right here on news 12 now.
