Federal medical death

An inmate has died from the coronavirus.

The center says 48- year-old stephen cook became ill with the virus on may 13th and died wednesday at u-k hospital.

Five inmates from the prison have died from the coronavirus.

That was the only death reported by the lexington- fayette county health department today.

The health department is reporting 35 new cases... the single largest one-day increase in cases that is not connected to the federal medical center.

A majority of the cases reported in lexington have been tied to the prison.

The health department says this latest increase is tied to individuals spreading it to family members and the community.
