Head of the school explains hoe administrators plan to keep students safe.

Wtva's alexis jones is live with how administrators are protecting students and staff from the coronavirus.

Private schools like oak hill academy do not have to follow the mississippi department of education's plans.

Administrators here have created their own.

Cathy davis- head of oak hill academy trt: 2 vo: at oak hill, administrators, parents, and healthcare professionals came together to create the plan.

When students arrive, staff take their temperatures.

Up to 15 kids are allowed in each classroom to ensure social distancing.

Head of the school, cathy davis, said students needed get back to class.

Sot: "we feel like it was important for them socially, mentally as well as educationally to get them back into our school."

Each class has it's own supplies.

Students and teachers are required to wear masks inside.

Administrators will also give teachers a protection curtain if they ask for one.

Sot: "no one is really sure what happens with covid and how it spreads.

We do the best to mitigate any risk."

Lunch is served inside the cafeteria.

The staff seat six kids at each table.

When students get their food, a plexiglass is up to protect them and cafeteria workers.

Teachers and students are encouraged to sanitize their hands.

Custodians wipe down desks, cabinets, and tables throughout the day.

Davis said lowering the spread of germs is a group effort.

Sot: "everyone has a role in sanitizing our school."

Oak hill does follow cdc and state health officials guildlines.
