An organization is helping many people who are struggling to find enough food for their families during the pandemic.

The less fortunate can use "more help" during the pandemic.

And one local group who helps feed the hungry asked the private sector to step up, which it did as we hear from w-t-v-a's alexis jones.

The lee county hunger coalition is patterning with multiple businesses to help bring in donations.

The director of the organization said he sees more people who need help with putting food on their tables.

Pkg: sot: "because of covid we've seen the state..

The food insecurity rates go back to higher than they were five years ago."

Jason martin- director of lee county hunger coalition trt: 7 director of the hunger coalition, jason martin, said this is a year-round problem.

But he said hunger challenged rates rose to 20 percent of the population in lee county since the pandemic.

Martin added, 1 in 4 children in the county don't have access to food.

Sot: "that means they don't know where their next meal is coming from.

So, we want to be a part of the help with that.

We want to be a part of the solution."

During the whole month of september, the hunger coalition is patterning with state farm.

Martin said about 75 people donated food today.

Stand up: september is also hunger action month.

Martin said people can help by bringing can goods, pantry staples, and baby formula to the state farm on gloster street.

Sot: "a lot of that is to raise a level of awareness.

A lot of that is just to help put more food into the community."

The organization is also accepting baby wipes and diapers.
