The sheriff will always send deputies into an evacuated area to make sure residents are getting out.

This is helpful for those in remote areas with poor signal.

"but the first thing that we often go to is a technological approach.

We use our code red system, which we ask people to sign up for but in addition to that, we utilize i-paws, the integrated public alert and warning system.

Through there we can reach out to and hopefully conncect with cell phones that might be in the affeted area.

You can also have messages broadcast on television stations and radio stations and through our code red system, we can usually hit landline telephones, cell phones, if they've been registered, send text messages and emails if the people have opted-in for that."
