Starting today..families will be able to visit loved ones in- person at some long-term care facilities.

State health officials say the goal is to strike a balance between safety and the need for family and friends to reconnect after many months apart.

Still, there are some limitations on where and how many people will be allowed to visit.

Jacob, how will this work for those hoping to get inside?

Residents at long term care facilties may meet with up to two guests in an approved area inside the facility.

The care facility also must meet qualificatoins in order to host visitors.

Those requirements include having no suspected or current cases of covid.

They must follow visitation requirements detailed by the department of human services.

And they must be in a community with lower rates of infection.

Visits will be staggered and may have time limits so everyone gets a turn.

Visitors will also be screened for covid before entering and will have their name, address and phone number taken for contact tracing, if needed.

Dhs has also released an updated list of facilities that*cannot host visitors because of covid cases.

There are currently seven facilties in eugene with reported cases.
