Good evening good evening and welcome to a special saturday in the paint.... 2020 has been full of cancellations due to covid-19, but one thing that remained the same this year is the vigo county school corporation wabash valley classic... the 21st annual boys basketball tourney tipped off today at two sites terre haute north and terre haute south... we'll start at north, where the host patriots who have won this tourney the last two years had the first game in the rob york chevrolet bracket against edgewood.... matt gauer with the slick spin move for a hoop...he had 20 for the patriots.... mark hankins great defense for north...he gets the steal, draws the contact on the other end....banks it in and draws the foul... north was up 24-21 at recess... the third quarter of this game had seven lead changes....the final one came here on the coleman sader hoop after he outbattles the patriot defenders.... edgewood took a 35-34 lead to the fourth... edgewood look like they had the game won...this layup by sader gives them a six-point lead with just over a minute to play... but here comes the champs...gauer good...north down three... then caden mason gets the loose ball and scores...north down one, gauer would score a layup to give north a 51-50 lead with 15 seconds left... clock running under 10 seconds to go edgewood finds zeke powell and the mustang has ice in his veins, three for the lead...its good...edgewood up 53-51 with 1.4 seconds left...powell is pumped up.... north one last chance, they draw up a great play and get their shooter matt gauer a great shot....he nails it but you see the ref come running in waving the bucket off... the ball was in gauer's hands when the buzzer sounded, it doesn't count.... heartbreaker city for the patriots, what a win for edgewood... edgewood wins a thriller 53-51......mustangs end the patriots 8-game classic winning streak... west vigo and south vermillion faced each other after each of their first round opponents had to
