Season.

Several players opted out on monday, so the school called it quits.

Chattanooga would not have had enough players at certain position groups to adequately field a team.

The mocs proved to be one of the top teams in the socon this spring.

They were ranked 9th in the nation before suffering their first conference loss to mercer on saturday.

Chattanooga lost 35-28, even though head coach rusty wright rested most all of his starters.

He was concerrned about playing time and injuries for his veterans since u-t-c will turn around and play this fall as well..

Wright has no issues with monday's opt out.

Wright:"completely support them.

Not going to argue with them.

Didn't argue with them.

Haven't even spoken to them yet.

I haven't had an opportunity with all this stuff going on.

Since this whole deal started even since last march or august.

I mean it's been a week-to- week thing the whole time.

It has taken a lot just to get them to this point."

Reporter:"are you glad the spring season is over?"

Wright:"i mean you never want things to end.

I'm glad if that's what they wanted.

I was going to coach football as long as they wanted to keep playing.

In the long run is it better for us.

Probably.

I've gotten plenty of text messages from other people at our level and higher levels saying y'all are doing the right thing.

Just keep doing the right thing, and you'll be fine."
