More than 42,000 Ohioans filed initial jobless claims for the week that ended May 23, bringing the total filed in 10 weeks to more than 1.25 million, according to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. Tens of thousands of initial claims continue to be filed weekly even as the state has lifted many of the restrictions that shuttered businesses in mid-March at the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, putting people out of work.
