Police investigation clears burn victim of murder of ex

A burn survivor horribly disfigured after her husband tried to set her alight has finally been cleared after a police investigation was launched suggesting it was her that had tried to kill him.Murder charges against Valentina Pitzalis, 37, were finally dismissed after a nine-year ordeal on Thursday (1 October).Ms Pitzalis wept as she told her supporters "It's the end of a nightmare" in a video posted on her social media.Valentina survived a fire that was started by her ex-husband, Manuel Piredda, who was 27 at the time of his death, when he attempted to kill them both by setting them ablaze in their home in the village of Bacu Abis, South Sardinia, Italy in 2011.The victim managed to get out of the flames alive but was severely injured and scarred for life with obvious burn marks all over her body.

She lost both of her hands, her nose and lips as a result.Several surgeries were needed to save her, but she fought through courageously and came out alive with her smile and dignity intact. However, her ordeal was not over there.A murder investigation was launched in 2017 at the behest of Piredda's family, who demanded to know the cause of their son’s death.
