President’s address boycott: Matter of regret, says BJP; Congress hits back

President Ram Nath Kovind addressed a joint session of Parliament on Friday.

Over 16 parties including Congress, Trinamool Congress, Shiv Sena, NCP boycotted the speech.

War of words broke out between the government and the opposition over the issue.

Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said the president is beyond the political divide and represents the constitution.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said that the boycott was not an insult to the President.
