US Senate chooses first ever Muslim American federal judge

(MENAFN - Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON, June 11 (KUNA) -- The US Senate confirmed Zahid Quraishi as the first Muslim American federal judge in the country?'s history, late Thursday.The Senate announced that Quraishi won by 81-16 votes to the US District Court for the District of New Jersey.Quraishi, whose parents are immigrants from Pakistan, served as a US Magistrate Judge for the US District Court for the District of New Jersey, a position he was appointed to in 2019.He also served as a military prosecutor and achieved the rank of Captain in the US Army Judge Advocate General?'s Corps, deploying to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2004 and 2006.
