For this month's Hometown Hero segment, WAAY 31's Megan Reyna introduces us to one Morgan County man whose made it his mission to make sure none of his neighbors go without a meal.

Right now -- many people are finding themselves seeking out free food services for the first time ever.

But in morgan county -- one man made it his mission to feed his neighbors.

Waay31's megan reyna introduces us to this month's hometown hero and how his love for food turned into an act of service.

Prepped...ready to go... nats feeding families across morgan county.

Jones says:"i'm retired about 15 years, and um, i've got a bad heart, i decided i'd get out here and do something with the blessings ive had."

Two months ago -- wayne jones posted online -- asking for anyone who'd like a meal to reach out.

Jones says:"the women we're going to now, she's in a wheel chair, her name was given to us, and she definitely needs it."

And his service has grown.

He went from feeding around 20 people in hartselle to now 70 all throughout morgan co.

Megan says:"were you surprised he was doing something like this?

Did it surprise you?"

Nix says:"no, it don't surprise me, he's been that way every since i've known him."

Jason nix has known jones for years.

After getting laid off work due to the coronavirus -- he chose to reach out and offer his help.

Nix says:"opportunit y to get out and do something good for the community, and help a friend out and you know gives me something to do also."

At first jones was paying for the meals himself.

But word got out -- and people wanted to help.

He's now raised more than 14- hundred dollars to keep going.

And business also are pitching in.

Oden says:"oh it brightens my day anytime i can see wayne, whether he brings food or not."

And for jones -- its humbling.

Just hearing the thank you's is enough to keep him going.

Nats jones says:"when you can give a person a plate of food and it brings a tear to their eyes, they need that plate of food."

Megan says:"jones will continue to do this as long as the community needs it.

A community he says always takes care of each other.
