Area high school football game pushed back to weeks due to Covid-19

Back... while pro sports keep returning in different phases i know many in the area are missing their local sports, i certainly am... next month we'll finally get a taste of it again as a big local sporting event returns..... < it'll take place two weeks later than expected, but the 16th annual wabash valley football coaches association all-star football game is a go this year!

"we felt it was so important for the kids.

They lost their spring.

We wanted to try and do everything we could to get this game in".

"everyone is excited for sports to get started".

The association has spent the last several weeks meeting with health officials, they believe they have the best setup possible to deal with covid-19...... "talk to health department, union health to make sure we're safe".

"we'll take everyone's temp when they come into gate.

Encourage social distancing and wearing face mask.

Wanted to do this for the kids".

"we want to make sure we're following protocol and i believe we are.

Want it to be safe and fun environment".

Even following all the rules this event will mark the first major contact sport to play in the wabash valley since the coronavirus shutdown all sports in march..... "we're going to try and do what we can to social distance but that's tough to do in the game of football.

The game will take place saturday, july 11th at the terre haute boys and girls club park with fans!

"asked players and coaches if you played game without fans are you in.

50-50, some said they wanted friends and parents some said they just wanted to play football.

Only had 1-2 kids out of 98 say they aren't going to play" the wabash valley football coaches association also says they've had an overwhelming response from those in this years all-star game who want to play it!

"through emails with coaches everyone fired up.

Won't have banquet but other stuff.

Excited to be part of the game.

For some of the guys it's last chance they'll get to play".>
