Health officials with Deaconess have been providing COVID-19 testing for months in the midst of the pandemic, and now, they're eager to amplify their efforts in the fight against the virus with the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine.

With covid-19 vaccines being shipped across the country - hospitals now working out their plans on distribution.... 44news reporter marisa patwa is in evansville - with more on how local health institutions are preparing for the doses.... good afternoon -deaconess health system has been providing covid-19 testing for months now and now they are eager to be able to amp up their efforts in stopping this spread of the virus by making covid-19 vaccines accessible to the community -- with plans to administer them at their gateway campus in warrick county and right here at midtown in vanderburgh county -- as soon as they receive their vaccines -- scheduled to arrive this week.

In indiana -- some of the first hospitals set to receive doses of the pfizer covid-19 vaccine .include clark memorial hospital in jefferson , iu methodist in indianapolis and park view health in fort wayne and in southern indiana -- deaconess is expected to have nearly two thousand doses delivered and health officials are thrilled that at the end of a harrowing year -- with icu bed units filled to capacity, testing cites and labs overloaded, and health care workers pushed to their limits -- - they have a way to help better protect the community -- and keep more patients from needing to be admitted while ascension st.

Vincent is also set to receive nearly one thousand doses but before patients are able to have the vaccine -- front line workers will take them first.

And as it is a vaccine that requires two doses -- hospitals workers are perfecting their plans for tracking patients who take them.
