Football fayette's in the "red zone"...it has more than 25 cases per 100,000 people...and that already has teams from other counties turning down games....as the school board tries to decide whether it's time to send kids back to class in- person.

Meeting nat the health department and uk came to advise the board.

Commissioner of health dr. kraig humaugh says 1/4 of the county's cases come from u-k students...inflating the county into the red zone.

Starting monday, the state recommends schools in the red cancel sports...and stick to virtual learning until back in the yellow zone.

Caulk"it's going to be very difficult for us to get to yellow.

You're potentially looking at remote learning until they get a vaccine.

That's worst case scenario."

That angers a lot of parents...who were looking forward to the board considering a hybrid schedule including some in-person learning.

Bauman"a we don't know when the vaccine is going to happen and b they've already said the vaccine would be limited to a group of people which are not likely going to be kids."

Heather bauman has an elementary student and a middle schooler who's struggling.

Bauman"completely broke down and cried and just kept repeating i'm not very good at virutal learning, i don't know what to do i don't know how to do this.

And it just hurts."

Some other parents watching the meeting thought in- person learning should be delayed.

One commenting, "do you know how many parents will send their sick kids just because they can't miss work..

Staying home right now is what is best and keeps everyone safe."

The school board meets monday and will likely make its decision then on a plan for the next 4-6 weeks.
